Course Overview

Lessons are up to 10 minutes daily Monday - Friday. Time slots are booked on a weekly basis and not by the individual lesson.

Infants 6-12 Months Old
Infants 6-12 months old learn how to hold their breath, come to the surface of the water, turn onto their back to float, rest and breathe. In this position, they can remain resting until help can come to them. Your infant learns how to reach this position through many repetitions and gentle placements into the water. The lessons are private in that the Instructor works exclusively with your child during their lesson. It will take approximately 4-5 weeks to accomplish these skills.

Young Children 13 Months - 6 Years Old
Babies 13 months through children 6 years of age are taught to hold their breath, open their eyes underwater, come to the surface and to turn and swim back toward the edge of the pool. Students will be taught to go onto their back and float face up when they sense the need for air. This allows them to breathe while resting until they are ready to turn back over onto their tummy to continue swimming to the safety of the pool edge. If there is no edge for them to safely reach, students will remain on their back resting until help comes to them.

Skills are taught through many repetitions and gentle presentations into the water. The private lesson allows the instructor to work exclusively with your child, individualizing the lesson according to your child's specific needs. It will take approximately 6-8 weeks to accomplish these skills.

Skills Evaluation Fully Clothed
Students will first learn skills in swimsuits and/or swim diapers (required for those infants not yet potty trained). Once sufficient skill level is achieved, testing of these skills will be performed while fully clothed. This gives the child the feeling of what it can actually be like falling into the water with their clothes on.

Refresher Lessons
Refresher lessons are recommended for the first few years until these skills are stabilized. It usually takes from 2-3 weeks to refresh these skills.
